Harry Reid's Plan to Cut Funding Akin to Surrender
Senator Reid likes having his own way, even if it means the United States of America loses the fight against terrorism. In his most recent efforts, he has pledged that the military receive no additional funding until President Bush outlines a plan of surrender and withdrawal.
Thanks Harry. By the way, don't come over for Thanksgiving as I really want my team to win the football game and I can't stand it when all you can do is talk about their ugly uniforms.
For the last few years, we have all made jokes about the French Army. You know, the ones that have the French Soldiers waiving white flags as their rally cry to battle. Officially, Harry Reid has now replaced the French as the greatest living defeatist. Certainly, the recent changes in French politics have helped the French, but Harry has only hurt his cause by waiving a white flag at the very instant the Allies are beginning to win the war.
In the past, Harry has had traction on the issue of the war because President Bush has made some serious blunders, but times have changed. The President recognized his strategy was not working and replaced some high-end folks. He asked for and received permission to do a troop surge along with the necessary funding. President Bush asked that he be given until September to report back on the progress of the surge.
At the time, we were all skeptical and a little tired of a war that was not progressing adequately. It was appearing to all that the "Civil War" in Iraq was involving the United States in something not central to the war on terrorism. At the time, Harry's words rang true as the American public was losing patience. Of course, Harry was eating it all up because what was bad for President Bush was only going to result in more Democrats being elected.
Up until the end of September, Harry's plan was working to perfection. He was going to be able to go on the campaign trail and advocate that President Bush had lost the war and it was the duty of the Democrats to salvage the job.
Sadly for Harry, however, the war has turned and the strategies created by the new management team have progressed to the point that troops are beginning to return home and Iraq is systematically being turned over to the Iraqis.
The war was always intended to be against Islamic extremists, while promoting moderates and secularists. With the infighting between Iraqis ending, that has left Al Qaida without a safehaven. In short, Al Qaida no longer has a place to hide in Iraq -- hence the reason we are seeing more violence in Afghanistan as the focus of Al Qaida has had to change.
Just as the capstone is about to be put into place in Iraq, Senator Harry Reid has demanded a plan of withdrawal so the terrorists will know just how long they will have to stand down before resurging. Smart Harry. Apparently, in your military service, you missed the training on keeping the enemy guessing.
As it stands today, the United States of America is winning the War in Iraq -- and that is coming from a skeptic who had lost a lot of confidence in Bush only four months ago. If we continue to advance the war and build relationships within Iraq, this country will return to a strong ally who can help us in what is a larger battle ahead -- Iran.
Or we can follow Harry's lead and run away like a bunch of purple Teletubbies only to watch from afar as Iran seeks to dominate the politics of the middle east and we begin paying $5.00 a gallon for gasoline.
Why is it that Harry is always making proposals that hurt America? Shouldn't he be advocating alternatives that actually help us? Where is his strategy on Iran? What is he doing to lower fuel costs? Who is shoring up Social Security and Medicare? It seems there are some very big unanswered questions at the gate and the only one being addressed is how to lose the war on terrorism.
No more shell game Harry. Let's fix America, not break it further.
